Jerry Seinfeld told me that George Carlin is dead

Wow, I didn't want to find out about it like this: at home on a lunch break reading Jerry Seinfeld's Op-Ed piece about it. I wanted it to be front-page news on major newspapers, like some natural disaster or something:

"George Carlin Just Flew In to Comedy Heaven and Boy Is His Mouth Tired of Making People Laugh"

Atomic Tweed Playlist for 06-18-08

I had several goals with today's show:

1. After a friendly intro, play as much stringy, soothing, spacey 70s (and modern, 70s influenced) songs as possible (ELO, Harry Nilsson, David Bowie).

2. Blast it all into a 60s (and modern, 60s influenced) garage/blooze rock oblivion around the middle (The Remains, King Khan, Tres Bien, Marching Elephants, The Sonics).

3. Outro with glammy and space-folk stuff (T Rex, Bon Iver, Jeremy Jay).

Did I succeed?  Who knows.  Anyway, here's the list:

the listening party ep

well the whole 12 song, 12 tone, full-length album thing is probably going to take longer than expected. however, i'm just going to put together some of these special versions of the upcoming songs into a very special... Matisse and Carrots - Listening Party EP that i should have finished up next week. This is probably going to be the cover art.  It's a return to my whole black and white, Xeroxable designs.  Hopefully, the full length, 12-tone, 12-song album will be like a real digipak with pressed discs and stuff.

Omar's Listening Party

...on my myspace page.

here are some songs i'm working on for some sort of new album which should be available in it's complete form very soon.

until then...

click here to check out 6 new recordings:

1. the cowbell song (stringy, electro-soul version)

2. the good metaphors are taken (80s FM radio version)

3. confusing ring (breakbeat version)

4. we are known for our lies (slow version)

5. we are known for our lies (mo-lo-fi demo version)

6. candy and rum (jens lekman rip-off version)

but they won't be on here forever, cuz they still need some fixin' up. so listen to them while i haven't gone ahead and replaced them with Engelbert Humperdinck songs.

your myspace musician,

What-what? Jeremy Jay for Ink19 and Magnet Club on Orlando Weekly?

I have two tidbits of news:

Firstly - Some of you may know that I sometimes write for Ink19.com (and sometimes write for Orlando Weekly) though I haven't written anything for either one in a while.  For example, I interviewed Girl Talk a while back for Ink19.com and I wrote an article about the regressive views toward gay marriage of my fellow Orlandoids.  Anyway, I still stay in touch with Ink19 on a regular basis and, this just in, I'm going to be interviewing Jeremy Jay for them.  So look for that interview coming up online here very very soon.  I will also try to air the audio on Atomic Tweed as soon as it's available.

Secondly - The Orlando Weekly posted one of Magnet Club's songs on their BEATdown blog last week.  Their new Music Editor, Justin Strout (Jason Ferguson has retired) also said some pretty nice things about our music and summed it up very concisely as follows:

"Their lo-fi pop morsels are the perfect snack size and keep the melodies very simple in order to effectively lay a foundation for stories of hipster love and, well, whatever else pops into their brains."

Atomic Tweed - 06-11-08 Playlist

Atomic Tweed with Omar DeLaRosa is back! For the summer, anyway. Now that school's out and I have some much-needed free time, I'm back to doing the Atomic Tweed show on Wed. mornings from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.. Tune in on the way to work or school or something. Anyway, today I played a classic playlist full of songs that rule for one reason or another--though sometimes I forget what the reasons are and I just play the song. If you missed today's show, make sure you tune in next Wed.
