So a while back NPR's website did this awesome thing called Project Song. The premise is that they get all-star musicians to come in to their studios and write and record a song in 48 hours.
So far, the only three artists to make videos were Georgie James, Nellie McKay, and, my favorite, Stephin Merritt.
Frankly, this sucks, because I wish they exploited the crap out of this "Project Song" and got like a bunch of people on it. Sufjan Stevens, Jens Lekman, Paul McCartney, and other awesome multi-instrumentalists out there.
However, my wishing was all in vain because, to this day, those three aforementioned artists are the only ones to've made songs.
Today, and idea came to me.
Why don't I just make my own "Project Song" sort of thing? However, since I don't have the big-budget studio, nor the time, nor the talent, of these others, why not change it from 48 hours to only 1 hour?
And so I invented my own challange:
Record the best song you can in 60 minutes or less.
The result is this:
A Lo-Fi Disco Instrumental in the key of F# Minor. The song was recorded and conceived between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm on March 30, 2009. The gear used was as follows:
- Pearl Export Drumset
- Fender Standard Stratocaster
- 1976 Fender Twin Reverb
- Squier Bronco Bass
- 2 Presonus Firepods FP10
- Core Duo 2 iMac
- Logic Pro 8 Software
- Sennheiser HD280 Headphones
- cables
- misc cables, picks, and other stuff

3. Little Insects (albeit shrouded in mostly darkness and a "cool" psychedelic light)

(and because this blog has an implicit pro-Little Insects bias)

Anyway, we're playing in savannah, GA tomorrow night at The Worhmole with The Mondellos. Hope to see you all you Georgians out there to support little insects. Anyway, here's the flyer that swingin' cat, Artie Mondello designed:

Drive To Work Music #1
I'm always looking for the perfect "Drive To Work Music" that will put me in the right mood to have a good day at work. Every morning I face a difficult choice, because so much of the music I love, great as it is, is not good "Drive To Work Music" because it gets me too riled up or pensive or depressed about stuff.
For example, I noticed that when I listen to Jeremy Jay's Airwalker EP (amazing as it may be) or any other K Records type stuff (like the Microphones or something), it gets me in a kind of apathetic, solipsistic, nonchalant mood and the kids just piss me off all day long.
On the other extreme, if I listen to the Smiths or like Jens Lekman on the drive to work or other "pretty" music with morose lyrics, I tend to be very depressed throughout the day and it's difficult to defend myself against the kids' attitude problems.
And so what is the perfect "Drive To Work Music"?
It's hard to say, but these are..
The Top 5 "Drive To Work Songs"
1. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - "This Love Is Fucking Right"
2. Dan Deacon - "Wham City"
3. PAS/CAL - "The Bronze Beach Boys of the Summer"
4. Noah and the Whale - "5 Years"
5. Pavement - "Shady Lane"

Dear Reader(s)
Why don't you leave more comments?
Is it because I don't ask enough questions?
That was two.
One more? (Three.)
Okay. (Still three.)
Plastic Impossible Poll: A life question for readers
Do you hate your job? Does your job make you a little miserable sometimes and make you long for those moments when you can just go visit a nearly-abandoned mall at 10a.m. and listen to the morning birds chirp outside as you walk to your car?
