Last night was my first week anniversary of living in Brooklyn. So far so good. I spent most the week applying to jobs online and calling staffing agencies. Still, that left me with some free time to play guitar and record videos.
Here is my second of such videos.
This is a cover of what I think is one of the most depressing songs ever that hides under major-key, happy-sounding harmonies (ala the Smiths or the Cure). It's called "Horseriding" by Another Sunny Day. Identifying with this song doesn't necessarily suggest sadness. The thing that, imo, makes this song so great is how it juxtaposes such sad lyrics with such "happy" upbeat, catchy pop music. Lyrics like
"If I don't see you soon I'm going to kill myself/Perhaps I'll get over you
But I don't think I've the power
'Cause today I felt so good
Because I didn't think of you for almost an hour"
are so sad that they are almost a cartoon of sadness. A hyperbole, if you will. Genius, really. Or your average Sarah Records track. Anyway it's from the "You Should All Be Murdered EP" which includes two equally dark, but "happy" songs and you can go out and try to download or buy that somewhere if you like it. Here are the two versions side-by-side:
Little Insects - Horseriding (Another Sunny Day Cover)
Another Sunny Day - Horseriding
